I'd been having the itch to paint the past few days, and yesterday I fiddled most of the day. It felt really good.. like "Oh yeah, there's that part of my brain, I remember you!" It was a happy reunion. I did watercolor and a little gouache, which is about as safe as you can get I guess as far as paint fumes go. I started out by hole punching through some magazines, and then I picked out the ones I liked and enlarged them and painted them on watercolor paper:

(The dots are about 3/4", so the whole thing is just over 4" square)
It was a pretty fun way to play with pattern and color. I think I'll try another one in a more interesting arrangement.. maybe vary the sizes? Not sure yet, but its a nice little system. I actually really like the tedium of painting something tiny.
I'm going to stop talking about it now, so I don't fall into my habit of over-thinking when I need to just do.
I got some good books from the library the other day.. I need to add that amazon list to this thing... if I can.
